Pink and Nautical 1st Birthday Party.

For this first birthday party I wanted to keep things simple.  The colors were pink, white, navy blue, and hints of gold.
I recently started purchasing birthday cakes from Walmart and everyone loves them.  This cake was under $7 and it was plenty for all the guests.  The cake topper pennant was found on Zulily.   The favors for the guests were put in navy paper sacks.
Each guest received scoops of ice cream placed into little mason jars.   The jars were placed in a bowl full of ice to keep them cold.
These mason drink jars were also found on Zulily.  They were each filled with pink sparkling lemonade from Trader Joe's.  The pink paper straws were found at my local party store.
The tiny plate for the birthday girl was found at Ikea.  Her birthday crown was made with a brad, paper, and ribbon.  Tutorial coming soon.

Pink balloons were hung to add to the festive look.

Tea Party

What little girl doesn't love a tea party.  Golds, pink, and white were used for the color scheme.  I used a collection of gold trimmed mismatched tea sets found at vintage stores and garage sales for each little girl to have their own tea cup and saucer.

Each guest decorated their own hat to get ready for the tea party.

Paper placemats were used to create a backdrop for the photo booth.  Stars and twine were added to complete the photo booth.

With matching pink necklaces and candy watches on the girls were ready for the tea party.

The food stands were made from candle holders and plates.

Little croissant sandwiches, fruit, and tea cookies were served.
Goodie bags were placed in a wooden crate and sealed with clothes pins.
Each goodie bags contained bubbles, candy jewelry and these childhood favorites candy lipsticks.

Ready for Spring

It has been really cold where I live the past few days.  I think I'm too old for the cold.  I'm sooo ready for Summer or I'll even take a little Spring.  I have been in a little bit of a design rut with my home.  The other day I purchased this chevron placemat to put at the center of my dining table.  I have a bowl filled with lemons I put on top of it.  I don't know what happened, but this little display has motivated me to update, rearrange, and even redo so many things in my home.  I'll share what I've been working on soon.

Healthy Monday: Energy Boosters

This week is my last long run before my half marathon.  I have been trying a few different energy boosts while I've been training.  Years ago I made the mistake of taking a Five Hour Energy right before a half marathon without ever having tried one before.  I thought I was going to die after it.  I was so sick.  If you plan to take any energy boosters always try them before your race day so you can see how they affect your body.  During my training I've been drinking one of these Pre-Game Fuel drinks before each run.  I have really liked it.  They are about $1.  I have a lot of friends that love Gu.  I haven't tried it, but I did try the energy chews pictured below.

You eat them 15 minutes before you work out.  I noticed a difference at the beginning and felt really great.  About 8 miles in my stomach started cramping and by the time I finished my 9 I wasn't feeling great.  I'm going to try them for my 10 mile this weekend and see if it goes any better.

Healthy Monday: Favorite Running App

Hope you had a Happy Easter!  We made a quick trip to Southern California for my Grandpa's 90th birthday.  Have you tried using a running app?  My favorite is RunMeter.  It is amazing!  It's not free, but has great ratings and if your running a lot you'll love it.  You start it at the beginning of your run and if you are wearing headphones it gives you updates on your time/pace.  Otherwise you can just check it throughout your run.  Below is a pic of all the things it shows you on the screen while your running.  There is also a calendar that helps you keep track of your progress.

Since we were out of town I did my long run tonight instead of Saturday.  Thank you to the random stranger that was working out next to me that said, "Wow!  You can run really long!"  If you've seen the Disney Movie Cars his voice reminded me of Mater's.

DiY Thursday: Dyed eggs with colored tape.

I found a bright colored tape set at Target from their Kid Made Modern line that I knew I had to use with our Easter eggs.
There are 9 rolls of different colors in the set.
Step 1: Boil hard boiled eggs then cool.

Step 2:  Dye your eggs vibrant colors.  I used a basic egg dye set and added vinegar to make the color brighter.
Step 3:  While your eggs are drying cut strips of the tape.  The tape is like paper and very easy to cut.
Step 4: Wrap the tape around the egg in any pattern, design, or shape you want.

Your eggs are ready to display.

Peep S'mores with Twix Bars

Instead of Style Wednesday this week I'm sharing a super easy Easter treat.  Have you heard of Peep S'mores?  I decided to make them with a twist.  Here's what you'll need.
Supplies: Bunny Peep, two Twix mini bars, and two graham cracker squares.
Step 1: Place bunny Peep on top of graham cracker.  Then place your two Twix mini bars on top of the bunny.
Step 2: Place graham cracker on top.
Step 3: Place on microwavable plate and microwave until the Peep and Twix Bars are slightly melted.  About 7 seconds.  When you first start the microwave the Peep might expand and the top graham cracker will pop off.  If this happens stop the microwave, press the top back on, and start the microwave again.

It's a little messy, but sooo yummy!
